Illustrated Deck of Cards (2024)

TAFE Assignment

Australian flora and fauna themed.

Deliverables: double-headed 52-card deck with a patterned reverse side and joker card.

Tools: Adobe Illustrator

For a TAFE assignment, I designed a fully illustrated 52-card deck, including a double-headed layout, a custom joker, and a patterned reverse side.

Each card is unique. As the values increase within each suit, so does the number of blooming flowers, encouraging viewers to appreciate the detail in each card. Each suit is represented by its own native flower and bird, inspired by my childhood surroundings and love for illustration.

During test prints, some intricate “zig-zag” elements showed distortion. After peer feedback and review, I refined the artwork by simplifying vector paths, enlarging detailed elements, and optimizing PDF export settings. I applied similar adjustments to the reverse pattern for improved legibility and print quality.

These refinements ensured the final printed deck maintained both visual richness and professional finish.

I had the pleasure of helping out my teacher laser cut the class's designs - including mine!
